Sudden wind changes can make it harder to land the parachute.Īnemometers are important for drone pilots because a sudden gust of wind can disorient a drone and cause it to crash. SkydivingĪnemometers are important for skydiving because wind speed needs to be calculated to ensure that a skydiver is safe during their jump. Larger waves can cause navigation problems for mariners. Aerospace Engineers and PhysicistsĪnemometers are important tools for aerospace engineers to determine design concepts to make them more aerodynamic and physicists are currently studying the theory of One-dimensional Ultrasonic Anemometers, the influence of wind speed and temperature to sound propagation.Īnemometers are important tools for marine operations because wind speed determines wave height. Measuring wind speed is important for defining weather hazards, especially for tornado warnings and high-velocity wind exposures. Wind pressure is the force exerted on a structure by the wind. With the data, meteorologists can calculate wind pressure. Anemometers report wind speed in miles per hour (mph), kilometers per hour (kph), meters per second (m/s), or knots.Īnemometers are important tools for meteorologists, who analyze weather patterns, wind speed, and direction. An anemometer is an instrument that measures wind speed and wind pressure. The earliest description of an anemometer was in 1450 by an Italian architect, artist, and author Leon Battista Alberti. The term anemometer is derived from a Greek word, anemos, meaning wind.

The split itself hurts performance which you'll see in benchmarks further down. To construct the array of lines, we had to split the content by line breaks, such that we would get a string object per line. That's roughly 20 times the initial file size!Īnother problem with the line array representation was the speed of opening a file. We would create a ModelLine object for each line and every object used around 40-60 bytes, so the line array used around 600MB memory to store the document. The root cause was that the file had too many lines, 13.7 million. For example, one user failed to open a 35 MB file. However, we kept receiving reports that opening certain files would cause Out-Of-Memory crashes in VS Code. When inserting a new line, we spliced a new line object into the line array and the JavaScript engine would do the heavy lifting for us. When the user is typing, we located the line to modify in the array and replaced it. We used an array of lines, and it worked pretty well because typical text documents are relatively small. Although simple, the text buffer implementation powering VS Code hadn't changed much since the first day we kicked off the Monaco project. Developers read and write source code line by line, compilers provide line/column based diagnostics, stack traces contain line numbers, tokenization engines run line by line, etc. The mental model for an editor is line based. Even without low level engine tricks, it is still possible to improve speed by one or more orders of magnitude by using better suited data structures and faster algorithms. Inspiring blog posts like this one from Vyacheslav Egorov show ways to push a JavaScript engine to its limits and squeeze out as much performance as possible. Not going native, we had to find ways to improve our JavaScript/TypeScript code. We will discuss this in more detail at the end of this post. Converting strings between a custom native representation and V8's strings is costly and in our case, compromised any performance gained from implementing text buffer operations in C++. During an in-depth exploration, we found that a C++ implementation of the text buffer could lead to significant memory savings, but we didn't see the performance enhancements we were hoping for. For the VS Code text buffer, these discussions started more than a year ago. Performance discussions about JavaScript programs usually involve a discussion about how much should be implemented in native code. In this blog post, I'd like to tell the story of how we selected and designed the data structures and algorithms that led to those improvements. Maby Peng Lyu, Visual Studio Code 1.21 release includes a brand new text buffer implementation which is much more performant, both in terms of speed and memory usage. As long as the accessory supports Matter, adding it into the Home app should be simple and painless.Īs TechRadar’s Jeremy Kaplan recently said, “Today’s smart gadgets kinda suck.” Kaplan’s more optimistic now that Matter is live, saying “that shaky smart home” could soon become “something really livable.”įrom our perspective, simply knowing that a smart home accessory will work with Apple’s HomeKit without having to jump through a bunch of ever-changing hoops is a net positive. If you find a smart home accessory you want to incorporate into your setup, it won’t matter if the manufacturer has included HomeKit support. If a device is Matter-compatible, that means it’s effectively compatible with HomeKit, too, once iOS 16.1 launches. If you don’t plan on adding any non-HomeKit devices to your home, the new standard still doesn’t affect you. The add-ins youll see will depend on the kind of Microsoft 365 subscription you have. To use add-ins you already have, select My Add-ins. If all of your smart home accessories are HomeKit devices, Matter’s launch doesn’t affect you … yet. On the Insert tab, look for the Add-ins group. This means devices can communicate with the cloud, but the inclusion of Thread also allows for an energy-efficient and reliable mesh network of smart home devices throughout your home. Matter operates over both Wi-Fi and Thread. There’s also support for media devices, controllers and bridges. These include lighting, HVAC controls, window coverings, smart door locks, and safety and security sensors. In its first version, Matter already supports a wide variety of smart home products. Create a login, link to your SmartThings Location, and build Tiles and Panels all in your browser. Authorized test labs are now available to certify products as Matter-compatible and the open-source programming kit is complete.Īpple has already begun laying the groundwork for this, with the iOS 16.1 beta. The day has finally come when the standard is live, and integration can begin. That meant these companies could say they would support Matter, but couldn’t fully roll it out. While the supporting companies have been working on integrating Matter for months, the standard hadn’t officially launched. Matter Is Launched, So Its Supporters Can Officially Implement It With the rollout of Matter, many smart home accessories that aren’t specifically noted as being HomeKit compatible can now be added to your Apple Home app anyways. These include Eve, Nanoleaf, Wemo and more. SmartThings will fully integrate Matter into its powerful ecosystem, while continuing to support existing protocols including Zigbee, Z-Wave and more, ensuring no disruption to current. A large number of tech giants are behind it, too, including the aforementioned Apple, Google, Amazon and Samsung.įurthermore, some of the top smart home accessory makers are adopting Matter. Unveiled earlier this week, Matter is a royalty-free, open-source connectivity standard that will enable communication among a wide range of smart devices. That’s where Matter comes in, offering a communications standard for all to use. While smart home accessories exist that support all of the above, they’re not as common as we might like. When you boot your computer, there is an initial screen that comes up, in which your folders, documents, and software shortcuts are placed. Once the tires reach us, they are moved into Tires Easy’s industrial tire warehouses to ensure proper storage and prevent exposure to seasonal weather conditions. It is important to know that tires are often for months or years at a time, so your tire’s DOT code might not be in the same year you bought the tires, and that’s not a concern.Īt Tires Easy, we take tire protection VERY seriously. Checking your tires’ DOT Date Code will tell you when they were made and how long they may have been stored. It can take a while for tires to reach tire retailers after being shipped from the manufacturer. Just because you buy “new” tires doesn’t mean they were actually made recently. Why Should I Be Concerned About the DOT Date Code? If for any reason you are uncomfortable with the age of your tires after looking at the DOT Date code, please call us and we can quickly provide you with a return under our 45 day return policy. If you purchase new tires today, and the DOT Code was a year ago, your warranty will still begin on the purchase date, not the manufacture date of the tire. Tires-Easy Tire Age WarrantyĪt Tires Easy, we believe that the tire warranty should begin from the date of purchase, not the DOT Code. However, the identification information is usually on the inner sidewall of tires. There aren’t regulations on where the manufacturer has to place the information, so you may need to look at multiple sides of your tires before you can find the numbers. It’s not always easy to find the tire DOT code. The first two digits identify the week and the second two identify the year. On tires that were manufactured in 2000 and after, the last four digits indicate the week and year the tire was produced. This particular tire was made in the 35th week of 2007. In the image below, we see the 07, indicating the tire was build in 2007. In the example below, 35 stands for “week 35.” The second two numbers are the year the tire was manufactured. The first two numbers are the week the tire was manufactured. The raised numbers of the DOT Code are placed together and often enclosed in a raised oval. Plus, it indicates that the tire has passed the Department of Transportation’s testing and NHTSA manufacturer requirements. It tells you who manufactured the tire, where it was made, and other tracking information. Department of Transportation (DOT) National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) safety standards. This symbol indicates the tire manufacturer’s compliance with the U.S. To find your tires’ age, you need to locate the DOT Date Code on the tire. Keeping a record of your tires and understanding their age will help you save money on repairs and take proper care of your vehicle. This quick guide will help you find the manufacture date of your tire and understand how Tires Easy handles tire age based on the DOT Code. DOT Date Code Tells YouĪre you concerned about the age of your tires? We hope this article has been useful to help you avoid problems or solve the existing problems you may have been experiencing. Trailers with brakes will always be the best option when traveling and you should take into account that they will need more attention and constant maintenance to keep them in good and working condition. Also, be aware that the Law in most of the States requires brake system on all axles in any trailer that exceeds the GVWR of 3,000 lbs (combination boat and trailer). If the total towed weight exceeds 20,000 Lbs., you must use a trailer with Electric/Hydraulic brake system. In case your boat and trailer passes allowed weight, you should get an expert advice to comply with all regulations. You should know what the weight of the car is, since the sum of all (boat, trailer and truck) must be less than 26,000 Lbs., otherwise you will need a Commercial Driver’s License in order to move your own boat or have a Commercial driver to move it for you. With the “E” Class driving license, which is the most common non-commercial Driver’s License, you can tow up to a total weight (GVWR) of 26,000 Lbs. If you have Excel for Microsoft 365, Excel 2019, Excel 2016, 2013, or Excel 2010, then click on the File » Save As » Computer and select the folder. You can convert your Excel spreadsheet file to CSV using Microsoft Office, Google sheets, and other softwares. So, using inbuilt software, you can easily convert the files. This inbuilt tool support CSV and VCF files. If you are a Windows user, you may know about the inbuilt Contacts application (program). After that, the Contacts app helps to convert the file. You can do that with MS Excel or any other spreadsheet creator software. You can do this in three simple steps.Īt first, you will need to save your Excel spreadsheet in CSV format. However, this a long process (not too long), but you don’t need to download any software on your PC. It’s your choice whether you want to use software or not. So, there are three methods available – With Software, Without Software, and online tools. Moreover, you can also do that without any software or tool. Trail versions always come with limitations.ĭon’t worry, free software is also available without limitations to convert xlsx to vcf. Also, the trial version doesn’t do the proper job. When you will trying to find the converter software, you’ll see most of the tools and software are paid. However, most people don’t prefer online tools because of privacy. Well, numerous paid softwares, programs, and online tools are available to convert the files. After that, you can easily create the vcf file from that. However, you can convert or save the spreadsheet in CSV (comma-separated values) file. Because, there is no option available in Excel itself for this. 3 Ways to Convert Excel to vCard (xlsx to vcf file)Ĭonverting the xlsx to vcf file is seriously a lengthy process for most of the people. So, if you have an xlsx file and want to import the contacts from that file, you may need to convert it to the VCF file. But, still, to import contacts in mobile phones, cloud services, and email services, you need a vCard file. However, business softwares and bulk SMS services support the Excel file to import the data/contacts from spreadsheets. Moreover, some people get or buy contact information in xlsx files from many sources for business purposes. You can calculate and manipulate the data with formulas. Because it is easy to manage, organize, and format the information or data in spreadsheets. That’s why most of the people and companies stored the contact information in Excel files. On PC, storing the contacts and other information in MS Excel is the easiest way. Want to convert Excel (xlsx) to VCF (vCard) file? Then you’re on the right page. Countering an Oblivion Stone or Anger of the Gods is much more likely to win the game. Trading card for card and two mana for one on a Lightning Bolt or Fatal Push isn't the most efficient play, but sometimes it is enough to win the game and that is all that matters. Creature removal, especially mass removal sweepers, is something you have an interest in countering. In Modern, some of the possible options for counterspells include:Īs a creature deck, the cards you want to counter are different than if you were playing a control deck. Since flexibility is the big selling point, you want the counterspell that counters the most spells (that you care about) from your opponent. Which counterspell should be in the sideboard? Swapping your removal for a counterspell after sideboarding is a very easy start to having a good sideboarding plan. A card like Path to Exile is good against creature and midrange decks, where as a counterspell is good against control and combo decks. Painting with a broad brush, you have creature-based decks, control decks, combo decks, and midrange decks. However in Modern there are so many different decks it is impossible to have the right sideboard card for every matchup. In general you would rather have a stronger card in the sideboard and the more flexible card in the main deck. The main reason I play Unified Will in the sideboard is because of flexibility. Countermagic also can be a way to outplay a weaker opponent, or protect your best draws when you need to get lucky to win. Depending on the matchup or draw or who plays first, you can shift between these plans in a way other sideboard cards don't allow. Holding up the counter on turn 2 to stop a key piece while deploying threats as you make land drops, or flooding the board with threats then untapping and holding up the countermagic. Countermagic also gives you flexibility in how you play the game. In many cases, the main deck configuration includes some kind of creature interaction which can be a dead card in other matchups. With a creature based deck, it can mean winning the game on the spot when you counter the opponent's sweeper or other expensive spell. The right counterspell can be a huge tempo swing. Why run a counterspell in the sideboard at all? The main restriction of Unified Will is having creatures in play, so I will be talking about counterspells in the context of creature-based decks. I believe this card is much better than others think, and I want to explain why. I've spent a lot of time playing Merfolk in Modern, and I am currently playing GW Value Company with a blue splash just for this card. By using knowledge of place value to separate a larger number into its parts–ones, tens, and hundreds–a large number becomes much more manageable. You multiply in parts and then add to get your final answer. Before I show you the whole thing, I need to show you how to do some smaller stuff first. It's a lot easier than the regular way and it's kind of fun too. Often parents don’t feel qualified to help their child with a specific subject, but with the great resources available to parents online it can take only a few minutes to familiarize yourself with these alternative methods, including partial products and lattice multiplication:įirst, the partial products method, which works based on the same premise as partial sums and differences. Lattice Multiplication Lattice Multiplication of 4 This is a really cool method for multiplying bigger numbers. Multiplication by lattice is a simple, interesting, and enjoyable approach to learn. This approach is also known as the box method. Lattice multiplication was discovered in India in the tenth century and was subsequently used by Fibonacci in the fourteenth century. These algorithms are helpful for parents to know and be able to use to help their children. Lattice multiplication is a grid-based technique of multiplying two huge integers. To compliment a previous article on Alternative Methods in Elementary Math: Partials Sums and Differences, we wanted to present information for upper elementary students learning multiplication through alternative algorithms that include partial products and lattice multiplication. insert ( 0, value ) if rest > 0 : digits. insert ( 0, value % 10 ) else : rest = 0 digits. It may be printed, downloaded or saved and used in your classroom, home school, or other. This math worksheet was created on and has been viewed 3 times this week and 291 times this month. Lattice multiplication is also known as Italian multiplication, Gelosia multiplication, sieve multiplication, shabakh, Venetian squares, or the Hindu lattice.1. You have to start with the last diagonal (bottom right of matrix) """ diagonals = * ( len ( valueA ) + len ( valueB )) for indexA, digitA in enumerate ( valueA ): for indexB, digitB in enumerate ( valueB ): value = int ( digitA ) * int ( digitB ) diagonals += value // 10 diagonals += value % 10 digits = rest = 0 for value in reversed ( diagonals ): value += rest if value > 9 : rest = value // 10 digits. Welcome to The 2-Digit by 2-Digit Lattice Multiplication (A) Math Worksheet from the Long Multiplication Worksheets Page at. Each time a digit remains being part of the final product of the multiplication. The last step is to adjust each sum that way that the value > 9 is transfered as "too much" to the next sum. Starting at the bottom right of the matrix we sum up each digit of same diagonal. The multiplicand is placed along the top of the lattice so that each digit is the header for one column of cells (the most significant digit is put at the left). If we are multiplying an -digit number by an -digit number, the size of the lattice is. When each cell is filled - looking at the diagonals - you can see that - more or less - at the top right of a cell and at the bottom left the diagonal can be continued when there is a further cell. In this approach, a lattice is first constructed, sized to fit the numbers being multiplied. Multiplicating the column digit with the row digit the result will be splitted like this: 9 x 8 = 72 -> 7 will written above the diagonal and 2 will be written below the diagonal. """ lattice.py multiplication of two numbers """ def lattice ( valueA, valueB ): """ the lattice calculation bases on a matrix writing the digits of the first value as column headers and writing the digits of the second value as row labels. Lattice multiplication, also known as the Italian method, Chinese method, Chinese lattice, gelosia multiplication, 1 sieve multiplication, shabakh, diagonally or Venetian squares, is a method of multiplication that uses a lattice to multiply two multi-digit numbers. |
